Madrid-Barajas Airport (code IATA: MAD, code ICAO: LEMD) is located on the northeast of Madrid, Barajas district, only 12 kilometers from Madrid city centre. The airport changed its name from Madrid-Barajas to Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas in 2014. Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas is the first airport in Spain, regarding passenger traffic, transport of goods and operations. It occupies the 5th position in the ranking of European airports according to Eurostat agency data, and is the fifteenth in the world by passenger traffic, according to ACI agency statistics. The airport has four passenger terminals, an Executive terminal, an air cargo area, and two main hangar areas, on one side of the Old Industrial Area, between terminals T3 and T4 and the Industrial Area La Muñoza on the other side. Madrid-Barajas has four runways, two to two parallel: 18L/36R - 18R/36L and 14L/32R - 14R/32L. Another one, the first to be built, is now used as parking lot. Terminal 1

Terminal 1 mainly operates with International flights.

Terminal 2

Mostly operating with domestic flights, and eventually intercontinental flights.

Terminal 3

It helps with Terminal 2 operations.

Terminal 4 and 4S

Operating since 2006, these 2 separated terminals are the biggest ones in Madrid Airport. International flights within Schengen and outside Schengen are hosted in this terminal.

TRANSPORT

The following means of transportation are available at Madrid Airport to get to and from Spain’s capital:

Metro: Get to Madrid city centre by metro line 8 from both Terminal 2 and Terminal 4 within 15 minutes.

Train: C-1 RENFE line links Madrid Airport with the city centre every 30 minutes.

Taxi: Get within 50 minutes to downtown Madrid by taxi. Expect a flat fare of 30€ for rides from Madrid Airport.

Bus: There are several bus routes from Madrid Airport to the city centre.
